KeePass 2.x is professional edition free open source software. It runs on Windows platforms which need MS .NET Framework 2.0 or greater installed. KeePass also runs fine under Mono, i.e. Linux, Mac OS X, BSD etc.

Installation:

For installation there are two options – either to download the installer executable for Windows or to download the portable zip file. If you select the installer executable, then it will take you through the installation process and finally you have an option to get the software as a desktop icon or to pin it to your quick launch bar. Users who like to have the portable edition of the software can download the zip file. You can even run the KeePass.exe file from your USB drive.

To start working with KeePass password manager, one will have to create a new .kdbx database. This database will store all your password entries securely. There will be a master password that you need to provide for the new database. This single master password remains as a key to all your other passwords stored in the KeePass database.

Conclusion:
